Artist Reality TV

Guess what? Here is a million dollar idea, coming your way. Rumor has it there are auditions at SAIC this summer, so all the strapping young Creators (lil elote?) can audition to participate in a project-runway style show about emerging artists. Lord knows what Sarah Jessica Parker will have to teach people about art and career (although maybe the tutorial will have more to do with celebrity and self-promotion?), but from what I understand she will be assuming the role of Tyra Banks.

How the show will work, I don’t know. Is it a good idea to try out for auditions? It seems to me, if you’re curious enough it’s worth checking out, although like any successful reality show, it will likely exploit. The trick, it seems to me, is whether those participating can reciprocally exploit, or manipulate, the artificial context.

There is a good post about it here, and the auditions are on Thursday, July 16, 10 AM – 2 PM, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Sullivan Galleries, 33 State Street.
